Has Spring

When I was growing up, my mom would sing a LOT of silly songs.  Which I have tortured the Stooges with since their birth.  Here is one little charmer, appropriate to the season.
Spring is sprung
Grass is riz
Wonder whur them flowers iz.
I'm a little nut
Sittin' on a tree
Sum-one comed and stepped on me
I'm cracked.
(And yes it's spelled that way on purpose.)

I've been singin' this.  'Cause ya'll, it's looking like SPRING has SPRUNG!

Eight days ago we had 3 inches of snow.  Today, we have trees budding out.

And this is in front of my office.  If you look carefully, you'll see that the daffodils are trying to bloom.  Trying, I tell you.  Of course some people have more spring stuff, not to mention garden porn.

This time next week there will be tons of stuff blooming.  Hotlanta is simply stunning in the spring.

Speaking of stunning...

Want.  Must have.  AMC has Mad Men Barbies.  I miss Mad Men.  Can Don Draper ravish me?  Or I could be Joan - I once had natural auburn hair.

On the home front, we are trying to get Curly enrolled in an alternative high school so we can get him to graduate this spring.  He's going to have to go to an evening class - it's the only way.  Curly is getting over a sinus infection and has been pretty miserable while suspended.  But we are still working on school arrangements and he can't afford to be out any more, so it's back to school tomorrow for Curly.  And now Moe is feeling pretty bad.  Moe is seldom sick, so for him to gripe about his head and throat and overall malaise isn't good.  I think he will be home tomorrow.

DH and I did get something good done this week.  Yesterday we refinanced our house.  Shorter term, and dropped the rate down to 4.75% fixed.  We'll never see that low a rate again. so we had to get it while the getting was good.  But this gives us a tiny touch of breathing room on the bills.

I'm working on some minor tatting - a thought I had about some split rings.  I'm going to see if I can work it out and show you soon.

In which I want to be Don Draper's girlfriend

I love Mad Men.  It fulfills some sort of need I have for intrigue and style, character and costume.  Last nights's episode was primo - Don Draper confessed to his wife to really being Dick Whitman, and now Betty knows all of Don's deepest secrets.  (Excepting of course, his numerous affairs. And one object of desire was left waiting in Don's car in the driveway during this confession, the tryst aborted.)  The next morning, amazingly, Betty is still there.

If you don't watch Mad Men, you may want to.  You should be able to find episodes on someplace like Hulu.com. Why should you watch a show about advertising guys set in the Kennedy era?  I'm going to quote another blog here: "If you like Cheever, Updike, Richard Yates, ‘‘The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit,’’ the 20th century, design, Hitchcock, the New Criticism, melodrama, beautiful men and women, bohemia, suburbia, a pleasurable sense of doom, American history or New York City, this show’s for you."  Get thee to AMC on Sunday nights - or to your local video store - on the double.

Sunday ephemera

Bits and pieces du jour:

We have tap water that we can drink now. Finally.

We saw an unfamiliar object in the sky today - a big ol' yella ball. Yup, old Sol himself, showing his face. It did NOT rain today.

Due to all the rain, we have a lot of these cropping up in everyone's yards. At least I don't have any inside of my house.

The children will be going back to school tomorrow, thank you, JEBUS! Those urchins are driving me crazy!

The entire west side of Atlanta (that's the flooded side, folks) has a particular odor to it. My friend E says it smells just like a giant, hairy, muddy, wet DOG. Ugh.

I suspect that Six Flags smells worse. It is just downstream (and just across I-20) from a major sewage treatment plant, which also flooded and has been dumping raw sewage into the Chattahoochee river. Want to visit Six Flags? I don't think so, not today. I pass this place on my daily commute. I make sure the windows are rolled up and the car vents are closed. Double Ugh.

Funny of the day:
I am not slim. I am porky. Not as porky as I used to be - I've lost about 60 lbs in the past year. But I'm still FAT. Because of my weight loss, I've gotten new clothes recently. Moe (my momma's boy) was trying to complement me on how good he thought I looked in a short sleeved shirt. He said, "Mom, you make that arm fat look good! I mean that!" And he really did.

And now I must settle into my tatting chair and work on finishing this *&% hanky. That, and watch Mad Men. Because I lurve Don Draper and I want to look like Joan.
