It's sweltering

Hotlanta is living up to its name. It's been gawd-awful hot. sweltering, miserable, stiflingly hot. The kind of heat that smacks you in the face HARD as soon as you walk out in it.

And it's technically still Spring.  Summer is still to come.  It was supposed to get to 96 F today.  (That's 35.5 for you Celsius folks.)  July and August are our hot months - June is relatively mild.  Back in 1980, I lived in an upstairs apartment with no air conditioning.  Late that summer, we had 2 weeks of 100 degree plus days.  A friend took pity on me and insisted that I move in with her until the heat wave was gone.

Here's the forecast for the next few days.  We could have a summer like 1980 again.

You folks living in the land of snow and ice - not so jealous of me now, are you?

Since I've had to move my office to another building, I spend a lot of time shuttling back and forth between my new building and headquarters.  And damn, it's pretty miserable.  I end up coated in sweat.  Wipes me out.

Air conditioning civilized the South. This is no lie. I've lived without - it's awful.

On another subject, I got a package from my good friend D.  And she sent me tatting books!

I got Tatted Snowflakes by Vida Sunderman and Tatted Doilies & Edgings edited by Rita Weiss.  I didn't have these and I'm delighted to have them.  She's such a good friend!

I'm working on my first tatted project for the TAT Apprentice program.  I have to say, I like the size 10 Lizbeth a whole lot better than that soft Aunt Lydia's crochet cotton.  The Lizbeth is much crisper and handles a lot better.  I think it will be make a better outcome.

Another friend emailed me this funny link - we all laughed and laughed.

And my legs are now covered in tons of tiny scratches, courtesy of that bad kitten, Zelda.  She is fierce!

  1. "Hotlanta" sounds just like Queensland - we had a torrid summer last year as well. But the winters such as they are, are glorious. Traditional "Queenslander" houses used to be built up on stilts, with a breezeway from front door to back door. They didn't need airconditioning, perhaps we all ought to go back to that style of architecture!

  2. Holy hell! I'm coming to live with you. This 70 degree crap up here in Michigan is killing me. Give me that hot stuff anyday. I love it.

  3. Okay, FINE, make me feel bad about whining. I accept that our chilly weather maybe isn't the WORST thing ever.

  4. We're going to Whistler BC next week and I can't wait. It was 82 yesterday morning when I got up at 5 am (and I never get up that early, I just couldn't sleep). Reminded me of last summer when I helped Jenna move to Houston--6 am on the way to the airport and it felt like we walked outside into an oven. Blech.

  6. Hey from Dallas! We've got you beat by a few degrees... Go ahead and say it, "But it's a DRY heat!" I'll take the heat though over the cold. When you're snowed in, you're snowed in. When it's hot, you hope the A/C holds and get up and out early.

Nice friend to send you those books. They look like winners. Maybe you can cool things down with some snowfakes!
