Four Hundred

I just realized that this is my 400th post. So I guess it's a magical post - and Giveaway Time!

I'm giving away three Workbasket magazines. I've chosen them for their good tatting patterns. The issues are May 1954, October 1963 and January 1969.

As you can see, one has a lovely tatted doily on the cover. and there are other tatted items within each. Plus - you can make this cool sweater for your guy! Looks straight from Star Trek! The magazine from 1963 shows you how to make a swell earring holder using a bedspring coil, which I'm sure you'll all be clamoring for.

But wait - there's more! You'll receive recipes ("Line six muffin tins with bacon pieces..."), a pattern for knitted hooded scarf that will make you look like an elf, and a Holiday Glass Muff pattern!

Can you stand it? Do you feel the LOVE?

There will be some other items included, probably beads and thread. I'm not sure yet. Editor's discretion. No refunds, no take-backs.

I'll pick a winner after August 31 using a random number generator.

Here are the rules: comment on this post. That's it. No blogging about it is necessary (though you certainly can if you want to). No begging, no offering of treats will sway me. However, I can be influenced by anyone wishing to permanently remove a 23 year old nerd from my basement.

Speaking of Larry, here's his latest tableau. I think it's pretty funny.

Vader doesn't care about Larry's toys. Here he is napping with DH.

So comment! Because you could be cooking Creole Weiners soon!

  1. Congrats on 400 fun and interesting posts! I love all these blogs I have found since I started tatting. (don't enter me in the drawing - I think I already have almost all the Workbaskets out there)

  2. Congratulations on reaching your 400th post!

As for the entrenched 23-year-old nerd, have you considered a lure and trap scenario? Leave a trail of bacon to the exit...

  3. Love the photo and the whole post - hilarious! David and I love (love?) reading some of the recipes in the old Workbaskets (including but not limited to Liver Spaghetti), not that we'd actually ever make any of them.

He's too comfortable - he has no reason to leave. Tighten up on the rules, require rent (cash only, on time, or he forfeits some of his prized possessions which you will sell on eBay), charge for amenities such as laundry...

  4. You are too funny! I remember the issue with the Star Trek sweater, probably because Mom and I were big Star Trek fans... remember The Trouble with Tribbles?

Congratulations on 400 posts! Even though I don't comment often, I read each and every one. :-)

  5. Forgive me for mixing my metaphors. I should have typed BAIT and trap, not lure and trap. (DH corrected me, saying "lures are for fishing.")

Either way, fingers are crossed for a positive outcome and congratulations again on 400 fabu-TAT-sic posts!

  9. Hey Vader,
Fox says she doesn't want the goodies... she is de-stashing, (whatever THAT is) but she wants to say CONGRATULATIONS to HER.

Myself? I don't get the big deal. Not as if SHE caught something good, full of blood and kidney and other great stuff. Ya gotta love 'em, those
    wacko two-leggeds.

Hope you are getting enough rest, dude,
    Your pal,
    Gian

  10. You crack me up. I couldn't care less about those tatting patterns, but I MUST HAVE those instructions for that Star Trek sweater! Plus you know I just happen to have a couple of bedspring coils laying around and I was wondering what the heck to do with them.

Wish I could help you with the 23-year-old, but I have a 20-year-old of my own upstairs.

Tell Larry to keep up the toy tableaus, I am now visiting your blog just to see them!

  11. Ummm, I'll swop Larry for a 44 year old with poor communication skills - will that do?
    Love the tableau too.

  14. 400? Is that all? I'm certain I've giggled and sighed at least 600 posts worth!
I would only need the 23-year-old nerd if he would take out the garbage -- but our basement isn't a comfortable enough lure (not to mention the spiders).

  15. congratulations on your 400th post I love reading your blog and sympthize with you the boys. I made the mistake of letting the 19yo back in the back bedroom last year and now he's here to stay, no hints or ideas for removal.

  19. Those Workbaskets do have a wealth of info in them. Some funny and others are great. That bed spring sounds like a keeper.

  20. CONGRATS ON THE 400th! Your blog is always a must-read. You could have had a career in writing humorous stories! I'm seeing books, movies, sitcoms! (I am not pandering here for the magazines because I don't wish to be added to the list, as I am also de-stashing and wouldn't want to deprive anyone!)

Larry has obviously inherited your creative spirit! Amusing stuff, and it keeps him out of trouble!

    Vader is just too funny!

  21. I can't believe you are willing to part with your precious Workbasket magazines. You are more generous (and perhaps less packratty) than I would be! But 400 posts is a pretty major milestone, so it deserves a big prize.

  41. Congrats on your 400th post, always interesting to read the exploits of the family. Got a questions - we think we will be visiting a niece in Lawrenceville the end of September, would you have list of possible shops or stores that carry Tatting supplies in that area or Atlanta area. (Also big into quilting.) Nothing set yet, but planning. Thanks in advance, Robert, from northern Iowa.
